I have to say that my favorite place to get a prescription filled is my small town pharmacy. There is nothing like this experience and it’s sad to say there are not very many of these places left.
This all begins when you walk into Dauber Pharmacy and someone greets you by name. Not hello sir, or hello, how are you today. It’s “Hi Rick, how are you today?” They actually know me. Better yet, they know what medications I take and tell me what to look out for and how to take it. You know, patient counseling. To top that, when I run out of refills, they automatically check with the doctor’s office to see if I need to continue taking the medication. Then have it renewed for me. Is this great service or what?
I’m sure your asking why am I bringing this up. Let’s compare this to my recent vacation where I forgot to take my medication with me. I contacted my doctor’s office and they called in a prescription to a larger pharmacy in the location we were visiting. No one knew me or even said hello when I walked into the store. I even looked a little lost and people walked right by. I found my way to the pharmacy counter and waited while the person at the window was on the phone. This person asked if they could help me, so I explained a prescription had been called in and I’m trying to see if it is ready. She quietly asked me to hold on and after the phone call and went to go look for it. By this time the phone rang again and this person answered the phone while carrying a small paper bag to the window. She quietly handed me the bag and asked if I had any questions. I said no, so she said that I could pay for this up front and went on with her phone call. I’m sure this call was important, as it sounded like she was speaking with a doctor’s office. Patient counseling you ask? None. Notta. Zilch. It sure is a good thing I have taken this before, because I was not about to get any insight on how to take it or anything similar to counseling. The cool thing about this large store is that I was able to get new sunglasses since I forgot those as well.
