CAMP HILL, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE:RAD) today announced sales results for April.
Monthly Sales
For the four weeks ended April 24, 2010, same store sales decreased 1.0 percent over the prior-year period. April front-end same stores sales decreased 1.2 percent while pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 103 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, declined 0.9 percent. Prescriptions filled at comparable stores decreased 1.8 percent over the prior-year period. April and March front-end sales were impacted by an earlier Easter this year (April 4 this year versus April 12 last year). Same store front-end sales for the combined March and April sales period increased by 0.3 percent.
Total drugstore sales for the four-week period decreased 2.0 percent to $1.962 billion compared to $2.003 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 67.8 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 96.3 percent of pharmacy sales.
Year-to-Date Sales
Same store sales for the eight-week period ended April 24, 2010 decreased 0.6 percent, consisting of a 0.3 percent front-end same store sales increase and a 1.0 percent decrease in pharmacy same store sales. Prescriptions filled at comparable stores decreased 1.6 percent over the prior-year period.
Total drugstore sales for the eight weeks ended April 24, 2010 decreased 1.7 percent to $3.930 billion from $4.000 billion in last year’s like period. Prescription revenue accounted for 68.3 percent of total drugstore sales, and third-party prescription revenue was 96.3 percent of pharmacy sales.
